Track citations and republication
Find mentions and republications of your journalism, trace them to the original story, and see what changed.
Why we’re building this
A publisher’s own website captures only part of the life of its journalism. Stories are republished, quoted, and referenced elsewhere. Understanding that circulation can inform distribution choices and reveal relationships that traffic to the original article does not show.
Connect coverage to its source
Catbird follows how Creative Commons-licensed news stories spread across the web. It discovers leads, examines attribution and text overlap, distinguishes republications from mentions, and connects a pickup to its originating article.
Understand how stories travel
Compare which stories get picked up, which outlets carry them, how quickly they appear, and what editors change in the headline or text. Each observation links to the coverage it describes.
Keep different kinds of use distinct
A mention, a republication, and an AI citation tell different stories. Catbird’s current focus is attributed circulation on the web. Our AI visibility work examines observations inside AI answers.
In development. An observed pickup is evidence of distribution, not a count of readers or a measure of impact. The record is not a complete census of the web.
